Communists juggle with terms in order to manipulate and gain electoral points, analyst

The Communists manipulate when they say that the current government has a popularity rating of only 20%. They are not consistent and use data only from surveys that are convenient for them, said political analyst Ion Tabarat, commenting on the Communist Party’s statement on the ratification of the Association Agreement.

In their statement, the Communists wonder if the head of a Government with a popularity rating of 20%, which consists mainly of ministers recognized by the Constitutional Court to be corrupt, can sign this accord.

“As regards the corrupt government, no court said that the ministers are corrupt,” Ion Tabarat stated for IPN. According to him, the Communist Party is making effort to maximally benefit from last year’s conflict between the ruling parties and, regretfully, the Constitutional Court gave the Communists reasons for this by its April 2013 decision, which held that the leader of the Liberal-Democrats Vlad Filat could no longer apply for the post of Premier as he was dismissed on suspicion of corruption.

In their statements, the Communists say that the matter concerning the country’s territorial integrity was ignored as the place of the Transnistrian region in the Association Agreement is not specified. Ion Tabarta said the EU lays emphasis on Moldova’s territorial integrity. “The statements of the Communists are manipulating. They play the game of Transnistria, which not only once was invited to take part in the negotiation of the Association Agreement,” stated the analyst.

As to the referendum on the signing of the accord, on which the Communists insist, Ion Tabarta noted that no political document is proposed as subject for voting in a referendum. “We now associate ourselves with the EU. Afterward, when we obtain the status of accession candidate, we can hold a referendum on joining the EU. A plebiscite is held if we amend articles of the Constitution concerning the country’s foreign course. Now we sign a mainly technical accord and no referendum should be held in this case,” he said.

The analyst underlined that the Communists speculate and try to gain electoral points. They want to create electoral themes that will be intensely covered by the media so as to hit the ruling parties.
