Communists didn’t show up at consultations with head of state

The Communist parliamentary group didn’t come to the consultations centering on the designation of the candidate for premiership scheduled with the head of state. President Nicolae Timofti’s spokesman Vlad Turcanu has told IPN that the Communists didn’t explain why they didn’t show up after agreeing initially to come.

The head of state invited the Communist and Socialist parliamentary groups to consultations set for January 11. The Socialists declined immediately the invitation, calling on Nicolae Timofti to hasten the process of dissolving Parliament.

Vlad Turcanu said discussions are now held with the other parliamentary groups to decide when to meet after these were given a period of one week to negotiate the formation of a parliamentary coalition.

A number of Communist MPs contacted by IPN were unavailable for comment.
