Shopping centers in each district of Chisinau instead of kiosks, modernized public transport and developed suburban settlements are only some of the electoral promises made by the candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Vasile Chirtoca, IPN reports.

The PCRM’s candidate told a news conference that he will start to bring things in Chisinau in order from the very first day of his appointment, noting that the dirt in the city is due to the absence of garbage bins not to the lack of culture of the residents. The candidate also intends to bring things in order in the Chisinau City Hall by dismissing the incompetent functionaries, based on the principle “functionaries serving people’s interests” not vice versa. Vasile Chirtoca promised to cheapen the services provided by the municipality and to punish all those who are responsible for the illegal allotment of land owned by the municipality.

“We will ban any machination with municipal property and will investigate the schemes to steal municipal land. It’s known that 30 hectares of publicly-owned land to the value of 1 billion lei were stolen with the help of corrupt functionaries of the City Hall and judges,” stated Vasile Chirtoca.

He noted that when he becomes mayor, he will ban the placement of billboards and kiosks and will order building small shopping centers instead of them in each district of Chisinau. There will be also constructed a municipal stadium and sports palaces in all the districts. A mortgaging mechanism will be instituted for young families for these to be able to repay the home loans in 25 years, at an interest rate of at most 7% a year.

Vasile Chirtoca said investments will be made to restore the public transport, to make bicycle tracks and to attract international hotel chains to Chisinau. The money will be attracted based on partnerships with private businesses, by developing the municipality’s tourism and economic sectors.
