As Parliament assembled today for an extraordinary meeting, the Bloc of Communists and Socialists staged a walkout in protest that none of their proposals was included on the agenda.
In reply, Speaker Igor Grosu said none of those proposals had been registered with Parliament’s Standing Bureau as per standard procedure.
At the beginning of the meeting, Socialist Radu Mudreac requested the hearing of the prime minister and other relevant Cabinet members in connection with the “out of the ordinary” food prices, especially bread prices. Also, the BCS wanted to hear the minister of the interior and the minister of energy. Another request was that two bills be introduced on the agenda, one of which proposed 1,000 lei handouts for school preparations, and another one proposed free meals for students in grades 1 to 9. None of the proposals accumulated the required number of votes to be included on the agenda.
Speaker Grosu explained that today’s meeting was preceded by the meeting of the Standing Bureau yesterday, and opposition members attending it had the opportunity to register proposals. “None of the subjects that they tried so hard to push today, none of them were proposed at the meeting of the Standing Bureau. This speaks of hypocrisy, of the fact that they don’t feel like working”, declared Igor Grosu.
The meeting continued with only the PAS group in attendance. The members of the former Shor group, now formally unaffiliated after the party was declared unconstitutional, boycotted the meeting as usual.
