Communists abstain from voting on their own proposal
The ruling Alliance adopted a measure which, despite being proposed by the Communists, didn't receive their endorsement. Liberal Mihai Ghimpu said that now the Communists had no reason to complain that the Alliance refuses to adopt measures proposed by the opposition.
The Communists' proposal was to transfer the authority of validating or withdrawing mandates of local councilors – in cases of incompatibility, dismissal or death – from local councils to the Central Election Commission, with the subsequent provision that the measure should take effect after the next local elections.
Mihai Ghimpu said he had never heard of a measure take effect as late as 3 years from its adoption, proposing that the measure was subjected to a vote in its original version.
The Communists abstained from voting in protest that their proposal about the law entering in force in 2015 wasn't accepted.
