The Union of the Communist Youth of Moldova (UCYM) organised the 4th Congress on Saturday, January 20. Besides the members of the organisation, members of the Communist Party, including President Vladimir Voronin (who is also the leader of the Party), MPs, and representatives of the Government attended the event. At the opening of the congress, Grigore Petrenco, the secretary of the organisation described the activity of the organisation in the last few years and presented the problems both the members of UCYM and the youth of Moldova confront with. He mentioned about the fact that young people leave abroad and few of them come back home. Despite the programmes promoted by the present government, it is worth to mention that the Government does not undertake all the necessary actions to attract the youths to come to the villages of Moldova, he said. Several speakers told the audience about the necessity to strengthen the organisation so that it becomes attractive for the young representatives of the society. The members of the organisation will approve amendments to the statute of UCYM and will elect its leadership. Also, President Vladimir Voronin will deliver a speech at the Congress. UCYM has about 6.7 thousand members at present.
