Communist sympathizers seek dismissal of Minister Chirinciuc

Representatives and sympathizers of the Party of Communists on October 20 mounted a protest in front of the Ministry of Transport and Road Infrastructure where they demanded that Minister Iurie Chirinciuc should be dismissed because he posted xenophobe statements on his blog, IPN reports.

The protesters said they are indignant at the fact that Minister Iurie Chirinciuc made statements against the Russian people, inciting interethnic hatred. According to them, these statements can endanger national security. “We are a united multinational state and we want to live in peace and harmony with all the nations. That’s why we do not agree with such statements,” said one of the protesters Ivan Filimon.

The leader of the Communist parliamentary group Inna Supac said Iurie Chirinciuc made chauvinist statements concerning the Russian people and all those who possess Russian nationality. From the minister’s blog, the statements were disseminated by the Moldovan and international media. They made approaches to the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Council for the Prevention of Discrimination to investigate these statements.

In response, Minister Iurie Chirinciuc wrote on his blog that the protest was staged with the aim of distracting the people’s attention. “It’s clear as the Communists do not take part in the campaign prior to the October 30 presidential elections and thus make effort so as they are not forgotten. It’s their right. Thank God we live in a country where everyone can state their viewpoint,” he wrote. As to the article published on his blog a week ago, the minister said he referred not to the Russian ethnics from Moldova or the Russian citizens, but to the imperialist and destructive policy pursued by the Russian administration in relation to Moldova.
