Members of the Communist Reformist Party (PCR) will take part in the June 14 local general elections on the lists of the Party “Renaissance”. In a news conference at IPN on May 4, PCR chairman Ruslan Popa said such a decision was taken after the party was removed from the list of parties that can run in elections. The PCR intends to challenge the decision to exclude it from the electoral race, but this procedure will last, while the party does not want to miss the June elections.
According to Ruslan Popa, the Ministry of Justice’s decision to suspend the registration of the PCR is illegal as the Law on Parties says that one month before the election campaign, during the campaign and one month after the campaign, no party can be suspended or removed from the Register of Parties.
The chairman of the PCR also said that these obstacles are created by the Party of Communists headed by Vladimir Voronin, which formed an alliance with the ruling parties. If justice is not done to them, they will go to the ECHR. In order not to miss the elections, the party decided to run in them alongside another party.
Ruslan Popa noted that he and the leader of “Renaissance” Vadim Misin agreed that the teams of Communist Reformists from all the districts will take part in the elections on this party’s lists. Elizaveta Moscalciuc will be fielded for the post of mayor of Chisinau.
On May 4, the Central Election Commission (CEC) struck the Communist Reformist Party off the list of parties that can take part in the June 14 local general elections. Such a decision was taken following a letter from the Ministry of Justice, by which the CEC is informed about the annulment of the registration of this party. On April 24, the Buiucani Court annulled the Ministry of Justice’s decision to register the statutes and symbols of the PCR. The Ministry complied with this decision and updated the list of parties allowed to take part in the campaign. For its part, the CEC obeyed the Ministry of Justice’s ordinance and also updated the list.
