If the Parliamentary elections were next Sunday, the Communist Party of the Republic of Moldova (PCRM) would be voted by 23.4% of the population, the Public Opinion Barometer shows. Its results were presented on November 29 in Chisinau. At the same time, over a half of the respondents said they would not vote, were uncertain or had no answer. Of those 46.6% who are willing to vote, 50.1% would cast their vote for PCRM, by 17% less compared with a similar survey carried out in April. This way, PCRM registers the lowest result since winning elections in 2001. The persons who support this party are mostly old people from rural regions with a low social-economic situation, Russians or Ukrainians, with incomplete/complete upper secondary education, the poll found. 14% of those who are willing to participate in elections would vote for the People’s Christian-Democrat Party (PPCD), compared with 8% in April; about 11% - for the Democrat Party (6% - in April). These parties are followed by “Moldova Noastra” Alliance (AMN) (8%), Social-Democrat Party (PSDM) – 6.5%, Social Liberal Party (PSL) – about 6%. Other electoral competitors would accumulate less than 2%. PPCD, PD, PSD and PSL scored higher compared with the results of the poll of April 2006. According to the Public Opinion Barometer, population’s level of interest in politics stays low, more than a half being little interested or not interested at all in politics. The poll was carried out on November 5-17 and involved 1150 persons from 85 towns and villages, except for the Transnistrian region. The maximum margin of error constitutes 2.9%.
