The Communist Party of Moldova, with the abbreviation PCM, launched the procedures needed to regain its right to existence. Igor Cucer, executive secretary of the party banned in August 1991, told a news conference on Tuesday that all the ‘true Moldovan Communists’ should immediately begin restoring their membership of the PCM, Info-Prim Neo reports. Igor Cucer harshly criticized the Community Party of Moldova (PCRM) led by Vladimir Voronin, saying it is a pseudo-Communist party that can be named only a Liberal-bourgeois party. “The PCRM serves the interests of Vladimir Voronin’s son Oleg Voronin. When the party was in power, its administration abandoned the ideas of socialism and focused on their enrichment,” said the executive secretary of the PCM. He also said that the supporters of the PCM were repressed by the PCRM, especially in the period when Vladimir Voronin headed the country. Among the repression methods, Igor Cucer named the firing of the sympathizers of the PCM, opening of administrative and criminal cases against them, pursuits and searches. “While the PCRM ruled the country, the poor people became poorer, while the rich people became richer. 90% of the national patrimony is owned by 8% of the population. During eight years, the PCRM privatized almost all the state property,” said Igor Cucer. According to him, the PCRM ignored such important issues as the property rights, interethnic peace and establishment of socialism. Referring to this year’s local elections, Igor Cucern urged the ‘real Communists’ to vote for the sociopolitical movement “Ravnopravie”, which has appropriate programs for solving the people’s problems and avoiding interethnic conflicts. Igor Cucer said the procedures for restoring the PCM may last for 2-3 months. According to him, about 25% of the members of the PCRM are ready to leave the party and join the PCM. “We will not renounce our symbols. They belong to the international Communist movement. The hammer and sickle and the red star will remain our symbols,” said the party’s executive secretary.
