Communist Party assembles 'Second Civic Congress'
The Communist Party will continue to boycott the Parliament's sessions despite the election of the President and will convene an anti-government Civic Congress on May 1, as decided at the Saturday's plenary assembly of the Party's Central Committee.
“We discussed the current political situation in the country and conferred with the Central Committee members and with our activists. We decided to continue our political resistance and will prepare for the Second Civic Congress, to be held on May 1”, MP Artur Reshetnikov told Info-Prim Neo.
“Considering that the current Parliament has lost its legitimacy and popular support, the Communist Party will boycott the Parliament's sessions and will engage in field work. This will be a sort of dialogue between the Communist Party and the people. Meetings will be held constantly, according to a schedule that will cover the entire country”, added Reshetnikov.
He went on to announce that the Party also decided to hold its once-in-four-years Party Assembly on June 9.
The Communist Party has been boycotting Parliament sittings from the beginning of the ongoing spring/summer session, accompanying the measure with regular anti-government rallies. On March 16, Communist leader Vladimir Voronin announced the protests postponed until the Civil Congress on May 1.
