Communist parliamentarians take their MP permits alone

The future deputies who will represent the Communist Party of Moldova (PCRM) in the new legislator got their MP permits on Saturday, April 25. The representatives of the opposition parties who passed beyond the electoral threshold did not come to take their permits, although they were also invited. They stated a day before that “they don’t want to drink champagne with the Communist comrades” and that they would never come to take their permits, Info-Prim Neo reports. The permits were handed by chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Eugeniu Stirbu. He congratulated the new deputies and told them that their task is very difficult. The other CEC members also were present, except for Mihai Busuleac, Vasile Gafton and Nicolae Garbu, known for their dissented opinion as regards the legality of unfolding the elections. The event was also attended by chairman of the Constitutional Court Dumitru Pulbere, who validated the mandates of the elected deputies. Those 60 Communist deputies lifted their permits one by one. The first was PCRM president Vladimir Voronin, who also gave a speech in which he appreciated the elections of April 5 as being “one of the most organized and democratic elections” and he thanked the CEC and the Constitutional Court for that. The president in office said that “our society is growing old from the political point of view,” and “the political class must still develop very much.” He told the media that the PCRM “is more prepared for the possible early elections than any other party.” When asked how he appreciates the fact that the political opposition had not participated in handing permits, Voronin said that “this thing is more related to the political culture of these persons.” “You can not respect someone especially, but not to respect the parliament is a very interesting thing. For the first time such a thing has been proven in Moldova. More serious appreciations must be given,” he stated. As to his place on the political arena in the next four years Voronin said that “the most desirable would be the position of a parliamentarian,” but “the decision concerning the structure of the leading team of the Parliament and of the country would be made by the PCRM team in the near future.” Immediately after the ceremony, the PCRM leadership planned to have a “sitting of the top leadership on totaling the results of the elections” in the Palace of the Republic (Palatul Republicii), according to the president, to which the media had no access.
