Grigore Petrenco and Zinaida Chistruga, members of the Communist parliamentary faction, are blaming the Mayor's Office of Chisinau and the Ministry of Internal Affairs for failing to protect the citizens that were hurt in a grenade explosion at the concert celebrating Chisinau's dedication day on Wednesday, and suggest that the Mayor and the Interiors Minister should resign, following the “example of other countries”, Info-Prim Neo reports. The accusations were voiced at Parliament's meeting on Thursday, attended by the Interiors Minister, the Prosecutor General, the director of the Intelligence Service and the Deputy Health Minister, who were summoned to brief the PMs on the state of affairs in the wake of the blast. After Interiors Minister Victor Catan said the explosion was a terrorist act and that a task-force had been created to investigate the case, MP Grigore Petrenco frowned: “first you call some pensioners extremists, and now you're seeking terrorists. What's next, Minister?”. When another Communist MP, Zinaida Chistruga, demanded his resignation, Catan answered: “I will resign exactly like the communist authorities did after the April events ”. Prosecutor General Valeriu Zubco reiterated that all evidence pointed to a terrorist attack and more details would be available when the investigation ends. Deputy Health Minister Oleg Lozovan has said the condition of all the patients admitted in the wake of the blast is stable and nothing threatens their lives. Only one person underwent surgery. While some MPs do not rule out a political motive for the explosion, others think it was mere hooliganism. A splinter grenade exploded Wednesday night when, according to police accounts, more than 80,000 persons celebrated Chisinau's dedication day at an outdoor concert.
