Communist MPs reject simple bill “Stop the Communist genocide of peasants!”
The majority faction of Communists in the Moldovan Parliament rejected by the vote of 52 deputies on Friday the simple bill “Stop the Communist genocide of peasants!”, put up by a group of 15 parliamentarians. The issue was the last on the order of the day of the plenary sitting. The PCRM (Communists) voted without launching in any debate, and then hurried to leave the floor, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The simple bill was signed by the MPs from the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) and two non-affiliated MPs, who accuse the Communist government “of genocide against own citizens”: an inadequate policy in agriculture, the high level of poverty in Moldova, the continuous rise of prices, the emigration, interference with entrepreneurship etc. If the bill had passed, the Parliament was to ask the Government to submit drafts providing for adding 300 million lei to compensate agricultural works, creating the cereals intervention fund, staggering the payments of the land tax and the compulsory social contributions for 2008 and 2009 etc.
The PCRM's proposal to reject the bill was made by the faction's deputy president, Dumitru Prijmireanu. He has said the bill “is nothing but a populist declaration, irresponsible and senseless, while from the political viewpoint -- incorrect and provoking.” The deputy argued that “the name of the bill does not correspond to the text, referring to the Nistru war, the European integration, growing prices of sugar and rice etc. and nothing about the peasants' problems.”
The author of bill booed, crying “Shame”, the leaving Communists. The AMN Mp, Valeriu Cosarciuc, later has told journalists that “today the Communists has proven once again they do not care about agriculture.” He says the majority faction deliberately breeched the Parliament's Regulation, which provides that the debates on the simple bill start when the Government presents its report on the bill's subject.
The AMN leader, Serafim Urecheanu, has said “the Communists' run from the floor is recognizing their genocide of their own peasants.” “The Communists comrades destroyed the industry, liquidated the Industry Ministry, have brought to bankruptcy the agricultural-industrial complex. In its 7th year of irresponsible rule, comrade Voronin decided to liquidate the Agriculture Ministry. 8 years of Communist rule meant the prices of food and utilities rose by 8 times. People are suffering. Moldova is recognized as a country severely lacking food. There are no poor and rich countries, there are countries well and badly governed,” Urecheanu said.
A group of peasants attended the sitting of the parliament. Gheorghe Ciobanu from Borogani village, Leova, has said he has remained very disappointed with the attitude of the Communists MPs towards farmers. “We have quite a good grain harvest this year, and the favorable weather conditions make the peasant hope he will be able to make up for the poverty of last year, but this cannot happen because the rulers do not want to,” Gheorghe Ciobanu said.
