Communist MPs demand dismissing ministers of defense and education

The Communist lawmakers asked immediately initiating the procedure for firing Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta and Minister of Education Maia Sandu. The two simple motions submitted by 33 and, respectively, 31 Communist MPs will be examined in the July 10 sitting, IPN reports.

Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta is accused of illegally selling armament and of making bellicose statements. MP Anatol Gorila, who read the simple motion concerning the minister of defense, said that Vitalie Marinuta’s statements that Moldova is ready to cope with a military conflict led to a deterioration in the relations with Transnistria. Thus, the official showed unprofessionalism as a minister of defense should prevent situations or war, not stimulate them. Vitalie Marinuta is also accused of defying Moldova’s neutrality by making earlier statements in support of the entry into the NATO and of hiding the illegalities committed in the National Army.

MP Inna Supac, who read the simple motion about the minister of education, criticized this year’s Baccalaureate session, saying the Baccalaureate centers were transformed into detention units, while the exam results showed that the pursued educational policies are ineffective. Maia Sandu was also blamed for the fact that no employee of the Ministry of Education was punished after school buses were bought at higher prices than the market ones. “If Maia Sandu keeps the post, the situation in education will worsen. The minister lost the moral right to hold the post and to implement policies in the education sector,” stated Inna Supac.

A simple motion expresses the Parliament’s position on a certain issue. It must be debated within seven days of the presentation.
