The April 7, 2009 events constituted an attempted coup, while the organization of the commemoration meeting one year after the protests means that the offenders returned to the scene, Communist lawmaker Grigore Petrenko said during the program “In Profunzime” (“In Depth”) broadcast live on ProTV Chisinau on Wednesday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports. The invitees of the program were Prime Minister Vlad Filat, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca and MP Grigore Petrenko. Asked why the firefighters did not intervene to extinguish the fire that was started in the Parliament Building on April 7, 2009 in the evening, Premier Vlad Filat said the Communist Government did not give such orders. “They pursued other goals than protecting the state buildings and the protesters,” he said. Mayor Dorin Chirtoaca said the then Communist Government tried to create the impression that they did everything possible to act in accordance with the law. In fact, they wanted as much destruction as possible so as to shift the blame onto the Opposition later. “We asked the police to ensure public order, but the police intervened barbarously in the evening. The police officers brought in front of the Parliament and the Presidential Office were unprepared. The Ministry of the Interior gave illegal orders, but there were no directions to intervene promptly,” Dorin Chirtoaca said. Asked to express his opinion on the issue, Communist lawmaker Grigore Petrenko said there were injured police officers inside in the Parliament, but the building was surrounded by protesters and the ambulances could not get closer. “The firefighters also could not intervene. We'd better discuss who set fire to the Parliament and who is to blame,” Petrenko said. The MP also said that the Alliance for European Integration that is now ruling the country regrets that the police did not intervene then. “They (the leaders of the Alliance – e.n.) wanted bloodshed. It was an element of their scenario. But the coup failed namely because there wasn't bloodshed,” he said.
