Communist Leaders say they do not have a candidate for Mayor
The Communist Party (CPRM) did not select yet the person who will run for Chisinau Mayor, Victor Stepaniuc and Eugenia Ostapciuc, who are among the leaders of the party said on Thursday, April 5.
Stepaniuc, who is Party Secretary for Ideology Issues, said that CPRM has no candidate yet, because, according to him, a final decision was not reached.
Eugenia Ostapciuc, the leader of Parliamentary faction of Communists, member of the Executive Political Committee of CPRM said that no decision was made in this respect at the meeting of the Committee held on Tuesday, April 3, thus the talks will continue. “The candidacies which were discussed should not be made public, so that the feelings of the people are not hurt”, she added.
Media was announcing at the beginning of the week, citing unofficial sources that the Executive Political Committee selected interim mayor Veaceslav Iordan as the candidate to run for mayor. According to them, the final consultations started on Sunday and ended on Tuesday, April 5. The candidacy of Iordan was examined together with MP Vasile Tarlev’s and that of the minister of Local Public Administration Vitalie Vrabie.
At present, nearly 10 political parties announced their readiness to field candidates for mayor of Chisinau. Local General Elections will take place on June 3.
