Communist Party leader Vladimir Voronin told a press conference today he wasn't ruling out the possibility of a coalition with the Liberal Democrats to break the political stalemate in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vladimir Voronin argued the strongest coalition would be a two-party one, since it was demonstrated that a four-sided coalition was “unable to govern constructively”. Voronin added that simple arithmetic calculations were needed before his party decided who to ally with, but whatever the choice, he said that that categorically would not be the Liberal Party, which “pursues anti-national policies”. According to Voronin, the Communists are willing to take power in a coalition government based on national confidence in order to stop the political and economic crisis, put an end to inter-ethnic confrontations, and lay the foundation for the country's modernization. Voronin also announced that this time his party was ready to endorse a constitutional amendment that would require fewer votes in Parliament to elect the president. Voronin added that PCRM remained to be Moldova's strongest and most promising political party. According to preliminary results, the PCRM polled 40.5% in the November 28 elections, which translates into 44 PM seats out of 101. It is followed by the PLDM, with 28.6% and 31 seats, the PDM with 12.9% and 15 seats, and the PL with 9.3% and 11 seats.
