Communist faction unwilling to vote for ratification of Association Agreement with EU

The Communist parliamentary group in the June 19 sitting of Parliament announced that they will not vote for the ratification of the Association Agreement with the EU, IPN reports.

MP Vladimir Vitiuc said the faction supports the country’s modernization, but this accord does not offer development opportunities. The agreement also runs counter to a number of articles of the Constitution and endangers the sovereignty and independence of Moldova.

In the same sitting, the Communist lawmakers demanded questioning Prime Minister Iurie Leanca about the content of the Association Agreement, but their proposal wasn’t put to the vote.

Moldova is to sign the Association Agreement with the EU on June 27. The lawmakers of the parliamentary majority aim to ramify the accord by the end of July.
