Communist councilors seek dismissal of chief of mayor’s executive

The Communist councilors on the Chisinau Municipal Council demand that the head of the mayor’s executive Lilian Carp be dismissed because a week ago he suggested flying all the flags in Chisinau at half mast on May 16, Info-Prim Neo reports. In the May 15 meeting of the Council, Communist member Valentin Todercan said that Lilian Carp’s proposal to fly the flags at half mast is a dirty challenge and a continuation of the efforts made to divide society according to ethnic criteria, which is a regrettable fact. “If Lilian Carp made this statement on the mayor’s instructions, I remind you that the City Hall is not a branch of the Liberal Party. If he made the statement on his own initiative, we demand discharging Lilian Carp from the post of head of the mayor’s executive,” stated Valentin Todercan. Mayor Dorin Chirtoca replied that Lilian Carp can be dismissed only in case of promotion, to division head, deputy mayor, or other posts. In the May 7 meeting of City Hall officials, Lilian Carp said that all the flags in the municipality of Chisinau will be flown at half mast on May 16, when it is 200 years since the Tsarist Empire tore Bessarabia from Moldova’s body. “May 16 is a black day as Bessarabia was separated from Romania on this day. The process of denationalizing the people living beyond the Nistru River started on May 16. We were detached from the process of forming the unitary Romanian state. On May 16, it is a black day, as on June 28. I suggest making it a mourning day and flying the flags at half mast on this day,” he stated.
