Communist authorities violate right to vote of Moldovans that are abroad, PLDM

The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) filed an application to the Central Election Commission, demanding that the number of ballots that will be sent to the Moldovan Embassy in France be doubled, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press service of the party. At a news conference on Wednesday, the first vice president of the PLDM Alexandru Tanase said that the Communist authorities make everything possible to hinder the Moldovans that are abroad from voting. The diplomatic mission in Paris asked for a twice lower number of ballots than for the April 5 elections. Such a situation is inadmissible,” Tanase said. Alexandru Tanase, who has recently returned from France where he had a meeting with Moldovan voters, said that no information about the early legislative elections is available at the embassies, in the given case at the Embassy of Moldova in France. “The Moldovan citizens that called the embassy were told that the polling place will be open from 9.00 to 17.00. This is against the law. The diplomatic missions are obliged to organize the electoral process in the same conditions as inside Moldova,” Tanase said. The PLDM suggests creating a state agency for the protection of the Moldovans that are abroad. The Agency’s tasks will be to protect the Moldovans abroad and provide consultancy and assistance in legalizing their identification papers and in integrating them into the society when they return home.
