The Communist and Socialist MPs in the March 1 sitting of Parliament submitted a simple motion on the European integration process that is the responsibility of the Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Iurie Leanca. The signatories argued that Iurie Leanca showed an irresponsible and anti-constitutional attitude as Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, IPN reports.

“Instead of ensuring the real modernization of the country in accordance with the EU standards, Iurie Leanca dares to declare that the European integration is done only with Romania and through Romania,” stated Communist MP Elena Bodnarenco. She added that political and public organizations have recently promoted the idea that Moldova can exist only through the union with Romania, which can be described as violation of the Constitution from judicial viewpoint and as treason from moral viewpoint. 

“Mister Leanca, in an interview for “Timpul”, said he admits that the Republic of Moldova can lose its sovereignty and statehood and pleaded for the liquidation of our statehood. He openly admitted that he would vote for the union with Romania in a referendum, which would mean the liquidation of the Republic of Moldova,” noted Elena Bodnarenco.

In reaction, Iurie Leanca wrote that he accepts with pleasure the “invitation” by the Communist and Socialist MPs to come to Parliament and will explain the importance of Moldova’s European integration to them so that they comprehend. “As some of the Socialists already produced the union by obtaining Romanian passports, I can only note that Bucharest and Chisinau should make increased effort to develop the bilateral relations, starting with the inter-human relations and ending with interconnection projects,” he said.

The simple motion will be debated when the Standing Bureau decides, but not later than 14 days of the submission.
