Communication beyond words

The Association of Deaf Children of Moldova will stage an exhibition of photographs titled “Communication Beyond Words” in Stephan the Great Public Garden on Chisinau’s Day marked on October 14, Info-Prim Neo reports. The photographs were taken by deaf and speech-impaired young persons as part of the project “Homo Videns” implemented in Romania. According to Veronica Capatici, the president of the Association of Deaf Children of Moldova, Moldovan and Romanian young people were taught to take pictures and make films as part of the given project. “Fifteen young persons with hearing and speech impairments will exhibit works through which they express themselves. They want to use this means of expression to communicate their own views and make themselves heard,” said Veronica Capatici. Three short-reel films made by these persons will be screened as part of the exhibition. “We want to promote this specialty among the deaf. The deaf people in our country train only as shoemakers and seamstresses. They do not know other professions,” Veronica Capatici also said. During the exhibition, there will be collected funds and digital equipment like photo and video cameras to help the deaf and speech-impaired young persons express themselves through photographs and fulfill their dreams.
