The presidential administration, Parliament and Government will delegate representatives to work on a common platform for identifying a mechanism for making headway with the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. The three institutions aim to reach a common viewpoint that will be presented by Chisinau in the negotiations and discussions with the foreign partners. Such an agreement was reached in a trilateral meeting of the senior state officials on February 21, IPN reports.
“There were several issues and actions upon which we agreed such as the reunification of the country and resolution of the Transnistrian dispute. We agreed to create a common platform that will involve experts and functionaries of the presidential administration, Parliament and Government. This will work to make progress in the settlement process,” President Igor Dodon said in a press briefing after the meeting.
The Head of State also said that in general, the meeting was a beginning of a dialogue, even if it was a contradictory one. “I hope we will continue the discussions at least on some of the social and economic issues, for the benefit of the people who should not suffer because of our political confrontations,” he stated.
Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu said that even if there is no consensus, an agreement was yet reached. “It is a subject on which we partially agreed by combining forces. We decided to set up a group of experts – representatives of the presidential administration, Parliament and Government – that will also involve independent and foreign experts. We aim to identity solutions in an optimal period of time so as to also propose them within the established 5+2 multilateral format,” he stated, without providing details about the concept. The Speaker added that the territorial integrity of Moldova remains the most important aspect.
For his part, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said they took no decision in today’s meeting, but they examined technical subjects besides the political ones. It is important to ensure communication in this regard and to show openness. There are particular divergences between the Government and the presidential administration, on such issues as the appointment of ministers and ambassadors and others. In the meeting, he explained that difficulties can appear if no solutions are identified. The Premier also said that he wants cooperation, not confrontation to exist between the state institutions.
