A protocol that envisions the creation of mixed teams for patrolling the Moldovan-Romanian border was signed in Bucharest on November 22 in the context of the joint meeting of the Governments of the two states, IPN reports. Joint patrolling is aimed at combating smuggling, fighting illegal migration and counteracting criminal activities.
According to the head of the Border Police of the Republic of Moldova Fredolin Lecari, the joint patrolling will cover a distance of up to 10 km inward the two states from the border. “Common patrolling will enable to save the forces and money of both of the border entities and allows extending the powers in the implementation of common action tactics,” stated Fredolin Lecari.
A decision as to when common patrolling will start to be applied hasn’t been yet taken. Since 2011, coordinated patrolling, along the Prut on ships, has been performed on the Moldovan-Romanian border.
