The crèche children will have the same menu as the children from upper groups. A decision to this effect was taken by the Chisinau Municipal Council on February 27. An additional sum of 25 million lei was allocated from the local budget for improving alimentation in kindergartens, IPN reports.

Viorica Negrei, acting head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport, said the modification was made in a move to match the model menus approved for kindergartens. “Until now, 2 lei was provided from the local budget for the alimentation of crèche children aged between two and three and 3 lei was provided for children aged between 3 and 7. Currently, there are 3 000 crèche children who have meals together with other children. The different menus for children from the same group are a problem. Thus, the crèche children will also be fed on 3 lei,” stated Viorica Negrei.  

Ala Nemerenco, councilor of the European People’s Party of Moldova, said this money was earmarked for ensuring healthy food in the preschool education institutions of Chisinau municipality. “For two years we had tried to increase the allocation for food. We promoted such a formula because there are crèche groups with children of mixed ages and it is thus very hard to compile two different minus. The budget we approved for improving the alimentation of children will ensure a common menu for all the children,” she stated.

At the end of 2017, the Chisinau councilors adopted a decision to additionally allocate about 25 million lei from the budget for the alimentation of children in kindergartens.
