Committee to coordinate financing agreement in support of justice reform signed with EU

The Ministry of Justice created a committee for coordinating the financing agreement between Moldova and the European Union on the support to the justice sector reform program for 2011-2016 that was signed on July 14, 2013. The members of the committee will come together at least two times a year to assess the progress made in doing reforms in the process of implementing the agreement, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Ministry of Justice, immediately after the constitution, the committee held its first meeting, which was chaired by Deputy Minister of Justice Sabina Cerbu. She said that Moldova will receive €60 million in budget support from the EU only if it fulfils all the set conditions. “We fulfilled the conditions and received the first tranche of €15 million. We must do the same this year so as to receive the next tranches,” said the deputy minister.

“If all the conditions are met on time, Moldova will benefit from a new tranche, possibly in the second half of this year,” said Victoria Neaga, the representative of the EU Delegation to Moldova

The Ministry of Justice presented a preliminary report on the implementation of the measures defined in the policy matrix for 2013. The final report will be ready in the middle of March, when all the planned actions will be completed and a mission of the European Commission will come to assess the reforms done in the justice sector.
