The Committee for Defending the Constitution and Democracy on Sunday, January 22 will start to mount protests that will continue until its demands are fulfilled, Info-Prim Neo reports. The Committee demands amending the Election Code, naming on the Central Election Commission five members representing the opposition and four members representing the ruling alliance, and dismissing Alexandru Tanase from the post of chairman of the Constitutional Court. It also requests setting the date of early elections by Parliament and holding the MPs who contributed to usurping the power accountable. Iurie Rosca, a member of the Committee for Defending the Constitution and Democracy, told a news conference that the power got into a panic after they announced their intention to stage protests. “The bus and minibus drivers from Moldova’s districts are warned not to come into contact with members of the Committee and not to transport the protesters to Chisinau on Sunday as they will lose their licenses. The civil servants, employers and personnel of education institutions are intimidated,” said Iurie Rosca. The Committee for Defending the Constitution and Democracy includes Iurie Rosca, former chairman of the Christian Democratic People’s Party and ex-Deputy Speaker, Anatol Plugaru, a member of the first Parliament of Moldova and ex-Minister of Security, and Pavel Midrigan, head of the Public Association for Democracy and Justice and former member of the Central Election Commission. Among the Committee’s members are also Ion Dosca, world checkers champion, Alexei Tulbure, a Member of Parliament in 1998-2001, former Moldova’s Representative to the Council of Europe and the UN, Eduard Rosca, chairman of the Public Association of Christian Military Men of Moldova, and Radu Busila, head of the Civic Coalition for a Democratic and Transparent Government.
