Commission of inquiry to examine how forest fund is managed

The legislative body Friday set up a commission of inquiry that will check how the forest fund of Moldova, the protection areas and the national parks are managed, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The number of cases of excessive utilization of the forests has increased and the environment is affected. An example is the constructions erected in the forest Tiganca in Orhei,” said rapporteur on the bill, Liberal-Democrat Simion Grishchuk. The commission has nine members. It is headed by Simion Grishchuk. The post of secretary is held by Lib-Dem Boris Vieru. Communist MP Violeta Ivanov said the Anticorruption Center established that damage of hundreds of thousands of lei was caused to the forests in a number of regions of Moldova. “We support this initiative because the Communist Party is concerned about such catastrophic happenings,” she stated. When drafting the bill, the authors centered on the data for the period between 2009 until present. Afterward it was suggested examining the situation from 2001 so as to establish the state of affairs during the Communist rule too.
