Commission might investigate cases of plagiarism
“I fully support the initiative to set up a commission with authority in the academic and writing circles, composed of representatives of bodies that supervise how copyright is observed in our country,” Minister of Education Leonid Bujor said when asked by reporters to comment on a recent case of plagiarism. In an open letter to the authorities, a group of personalities inform about cases of serious deviations from the legal norms and professional ethics, involving Vasile Bahnaru, the director of the Institute of Philology of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I'm concerned about the cases of plagiarism witnessed in Moldova's academic environment. As the image of the scientists is affected, we have the right to demand that the circumstances in which such cases happen be determined and the persons to blame be identified,” the minister said.
In this connection, Leonid Bujor expressed his bewilderment at the passivity of the administration of the Academy of Sciences to the plagiarism to which the manager of the Institute of Philology resorted. According to him, the Academy's administration tolerated Vasile Bahnaru's incorrect behavior in other situations as well. He mentioned the tendentious attacks by Bahnaru on the authors of the Education Code.
Last weekend, the press published an open letter signed by popular figures, who accuse the director of the Institute of Philology of plagiarism.
