Commission identifies cases of dumping of sewage into the Byk

At least three cases when legal entities or private individuals connected their wastewater and sewer pipes to surface water sewers or to rivulets that discharge into the Byk River were identified in Chisinau by a commission that inspected the area around Calea Basarabiei St, IPN reports.

According to the Public Amenities Division, the commission examined the surface water sewers and the rivulets situated near Calea Basarabiei St in a move to prevent and counteract acts to pollute the Byk.

The Division calls on all the private individuals, legal entities and persons with responsible posts to remove such irregularities or the commission that consists of representatives of the municipality and the Environment Protection Inspectorate will penalize them.

Under the Contravention Code, the unauthorized connection to the sewerage system is punished with a fine of 3,000 lei in the case of private individuals and of 13,500 lei in the case of legal entities. Also, the dumping of wastewater into surface water is punished with a fine of 1,500 lei in the case of private individuals and of 15 000 lei in the case of legal entities.
