Commission for researching communist regime expects politicians to show maturity

After being informed that the Parliament’s special meeting for marking 70 years since Bessarabia’s annexation to USSR was canceled, the members of the Commission for researching the communist totalitarian regime in Moldova went to the manifestation in the Great National Assembly Square, where communism’s victims were commemorated. Commission secretary Mihai Tasca told Info-Prim Neo the members of Commission hoped the Moldovan political class would show maturity and would understand the necessity to discuss President Mihai Ghimpu’s message, which was supposed to be presented during Parliament’s special meeting June 28. Ghimpu’s speech is based on the conclusions and statements of the Commission, announced May 31. The President was to propose the Parliament a law regarding the historical, political and juridical evaluation of communist regime’s crimes in Moldova. “Commission’s conclusions are scientific, not political. This is a historical truth the politicians must accept and confirm as it is. We are confident Mihai Ghimpu will remain firm and go till the end”, said Mihai Tasca. Marian Lupu, leader of the Democrat Party, sees no reason Commission’s report should be examined by Parliament, as it was created through presidential decree. He thinks another decree, based on this report, should be enough. On the other hand, PM Vlad Filat, head of the Liberal-Democrat Party, thinks the Alliance for European Integration should take a common decision. However, Parliament’s special meeting June 28 was canceled after AEI’s council this morning.
