The situation of the business entities from both sides of the Nistru River, the commercial barriers and strengthening of the trade facilitation capacities were discussed within the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE). In 2015-2016, UN experts implemented a study project in this regard. Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan led Moldova’s delegation to the second session of the UNECE Steering Committee on Trade Capacity and Standards, IPN reports.

According to the Reintegration Office, Gheorghe Balan welcomed the involvement of the UNECE in the first stage of the study of the commercial barriers existing in the country. He thanked the Government of Switzerland for the provision of financial assistance in launching such a project in Moldova.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted the Government’s firm commitment to continue to implement the package of reforms aimed at improving the work of the business entities on both sides of the Nistru River and to fully carry out the commitments in accordance with the practices of the world trading system and the roadmap for implementing the Association Agreement with the EU.

Based in Geneva, the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe is an intergovernmental organization that brings together 56 states. It assists the national governments in the process of integrating the national economies into the world economy by engaging the development partners.
