Commemorating heroes fallen on Cosnita plateau
Independence War veterans commemorated the heroes fallen in 1992 on Cosnita plateau, on Saturday, March 14.
The event started with a meeting at the tomb of Nicolae Sotnicenco, the first fighter who fell in the hostilities near Cosnita. Then the veterans laid flowers to the graves of other Moldovan heroes and staged a peace march to the Monument to the Soldier Fallen for the Independence of Moldova, which is in the center of the village. The manifestation ended in a commemoration feast.
The event was attended by over a thousand of people, despite the rain: veterans, locals and pupils, Eduard Maican, the president of the National Union of the Independence War Veterans, has told Info-Prim Neo
“The merits of the volunteers and policemen on the Cosnita plateau was creating a second Moldovan front and the plans of the separatists in the area were upset,” he said.
On March 14, 1992, the second Moldovan front against the 14th Russian army was opened near Cosnita village. The Moldovan troops were made of volunteers and policemen.
