Commander-in-chief wishes defense minister virtue and professionalism

Moldova’s commander-in-chief, Acting President Marian Lupu, during the investiture of Minister of Defense Vitalie Marinuta, wished the official virtue, intelligence, professionalism and education, Info-Prim Neo reports. Vitalie Marinuta said that during the new term in office he will make effort to obtain the approval of a number of strategic documents designed to contribute to stronger armed forces able to protect the country. Among these documents are the national security strategy and the national military strategy, which have been absent until now. “As a military man by occupation, I would like the army to be professional. Moldova’s army should be small, but able to achieve the set objectives,” Vitalie Marinuta said. Among the priorities of the Ministry of Defense is the provision of the servicemen working on contract with dwellings. In another development, the minister said that it does not matter what party fields the candidate until there is political and military cooperation with the commander-in-chief, aimed at developing the National Army. Vitalie Marinuta was proposed for Minister of Defense by the Liberal Party. Acting President Marian Lupu said that after 20 years of independence, the National Army should meet the modern requirements. There will be discussed a number of reform steps. The agenda of the Parliament’s sittings will include a set of bills on the development of the armed forces. The National Army has a joint drafting system. Half of the personnel are employed on contract, while the other half represents conscript servicemen. The minister voiced hope that the balance will incline in favor of military men working on contract in the future.
