“Come on, Moldova” team calls on people to join cleanup campaign on April 16

The team of “Come on, Moldova” project is ready for the National Cleaning Day that will take place on April 16. Until now, 27 districts accepted to join the cleanup campaign that will involve more than 100,000 volunteers. They are expected to collect at least 10,000 tonnes of waste during one day. Though the weather is trying to thwart the plans, the team of “Come on, Moldova” promises sun and good mood, Info-Prim Neo reports. Project coordinator Daniela Cibotari told a news conference that the idea of organizing such an event was borrowed from Romania. “We saw enthusiastic people who joined their efforts for a nice goal,” she said. According to her, after the campaign the team will organize a festival, where the best volunteers will be awarded T-shirts, insignias and other prizes. There will be also staged an exhibition of photos of the cleanup campaign. The campaign will cover over 700 settlements. The paper, glass, plastic bags and metals will be collected separately. There will be cleaned the woods, parks and the areas near rivers and lakes. Sixty NGOs will get involved. There will be by one coordinator in every district. The volunteers will be given special equipment to clean up the wet or more polluted places. Corneliu Marza, head of the Ministry of the Environment’s Pollution Prevention Division, said the Ministry supports the NGOs that want to contribute to a cleaner environment. “This event should mobilize the people. It is important that the campaign be a good lesson for everyone,” he stated. The Ministry contributed 126,000 lei in financing for “Come on, Moldova” project. Singer Nicu Tarna said he became involved because he cares about the country’s future. “It will be a test that will show how united we are,” said the lead singer of “Gandul matii” band. Ukraine will also hold a general cleanup campaign on April 16.
