Combat engineers destroy munitions found in Criuleni
The bomb squad of the National Army Saturday neutralized a batch of Second World War munitions at the request of the authorities of Criuleni district, Info-Prim Neo has learnt from the Ministry of Defense.
The combat engineers of “Codru” battalion unearthed eleven 102 mm artillery shells in Gruglic village. The shells were found by the 57-year-old Pantelei Fondos during works in his garden. He was astonished to find out that they lived tens of years with those munitions near the house.
The munitions have been in the ground for over 60 years and posed an increased risk as they could explode at any moment. They were taken to the shooting range in Bulboaca to be destroyed.
About 30 explosive devices dating from the Second World War have been discovered in Criuleni district this year. The National Army sappers during eight months deactivated about 820 munitions found all over Moldova.
