Colored paper planes with messages written by children for parents who go abroad to work were released into the sky at the Chisinau International Airport within an event entitled “Families without borders”. The event was aimed at sensitizing the parents and authorities to the situation of children whose parents work abroad, IPN reports.
An animated cartoon was shown in the airport’s departure lounge. There were distributed brochures with information about the impact of migration on children.
Border Police deputy chief Veaceslav Garstea said the parents should realize that the children need affection, care and communication. These help them develop appropriately.
According to the head of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Panzari, about 16,000 children in Moldova have their parents working abroad, while over 1,000 of these become victims of offenses.
The event was staged by the Swiss Foundation “Terre des Hommes” in cooperation with the General Police Inspectorate and the Border Police Department.
