Collection of signatures for dismissing Chirtoaca from mayoralty is close to an end, Socialists

The Chisinau councilors of the Party of Socialists plead for nominating a third person to manage the municipal affairs in the short term and reject the idea of designating a person from the local administration as a mayor on an interim basis. These said the campaign to collect signatures for organizing the referendum to dismiss Dorin Chirtoaca from mayoralty is close to an end, IPN reports.

The leader of the Socialist group on the Chisinau Municipal Council Ion Ceban, in a press briefing on May 30, said the Socialists are ready to hold negotiations with all the councilors and designate a third person to manage the affairs in Chisinau instead of Dorin Chirtoaca, who was placed under house arrest for 30 days. This person can be from the academic community, which is apolitical, and this should be named for a period of up to half a year.

According to Ion Ceban, the signatures needed to organize the referendum have been almost collected and will be submitted soon to court for verification. The referendum on the dismissal of Dorin Chirtoaca will most probably be held in October and local elections in Chisinau municipality would take place afterward.

Ion Ceban considers Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca was placed under house arrest as a result of an agreement between the Liberal Party and the Democratic Party in an attempt to block the referendum. The Socialists will yet do everything possible to remove Dorin Chirtoaca from the Chisinau City Hall.
