Ombudswoman for children's rights Tamara Plamadeala intends to send a report to the Council of Europe addressing the issue of illegal raising of funds in the Moldovan schools. Additionally, the Moldovan Human Rights Center is considering together with the government the opportunity of establishing a National Children's Fund which would attract donations to cover school expenses which are not covered by governmental subsidies. Tamara Plamadeala also said that she recommended the General Prosecutor's Office to investigate cases where teachers collect money illegally. The district education divisions were also notified to conduct such investigations. Depending on the results, measures will be introduced to combat the phenomenon. Tamara Plamadeala said that there are no direct ways to punish the persons engaged in such practices and the warnings issued by the Ministry of Education are not always respected. The children's ombudswoman added that the report for the Council of Europe will also address the issue of violence and abuses against children. Tamara Plamadeala encouraged the parents who are forced to make illegal payments to call the helpline at 080011116.
