CoE is determined to assist Moldova in state reformation process

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić said the CoE is determined to offer assistance to the Republic of Moldova in the state reformation process. In a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, the officials approved of the dynamic and robust character of the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Council of Europe, IPN reports.

“During her visit to Chisinau, Missis Secretary General was assured that the whole administration of the country – the President, the parliamentary majority and the Government – wants the justice sector institutions to become functional, independent and to act with integrity and professionalism,” said Nicu Popescu, being quoted in a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He thanked for the important support enjoyed by the authorities in the justice sector reform through the agency of the High-Level Working Group of the Council of Europe, with the program being instituted with the Secretary General’s support.

Among the separate topics of discussion were the human rights situation in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, the functioning of the eight Moldovan-administered, Latin-scrip schools in the region and the mandatory character of the ECHR judgments for the respondent states.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović Burić was in Chisinau on a visit on November 22.
