CoE invites us to the “Night of the Museums”

Chisinau museums will open Saturday their doors free of charge to visitors, as part of the third edition of the Europewide action “Night of the Museums”. European cities taking part in this year's event include Baku, Brussels, London, Paris, Strasbourg, Zagreb, Bratislava, Barcelona, Madrid, Lisbon, Belgrade, Tallinn, Budapest, Venice, Lugano, Vilnius, Krakow, Warsaw and Bucharest. The Council of Europe is offering its patronage for the third year running to a Europewide initiative to encourage more young people to visit museums. According to CoE Secretary General, Terry Davis, "the Council of Europe is delighted to support this event, which aims at attracting a new public who might not ordinarily visit a museum" said Council of Europe Secretary General Terry Davis. "At the Council of Europe we believe culture is for everyone. Extending the opening hours, offering free admission and an imaginative programme of entertainment are excellent ways of reaching this wider, and in particular, younger public, which we believe will discover an exciting new world of knowledge and cultural insights in the museums taking part in this initiative", the European official stated. More than two thousand museums in 39 countries will open their doors free of charge from sunset on Saturday 19 May until one o'clock the following morning, and will put on special musical and theatrical events to mark the occasion.
