Coalition founding agreement limits Lib-Dems' maneuvering space, analyst thinks
Political analyst Bogdan Tirdea thinks that the text of the founding agreement of the Alliance for European Integration has not been made public yet because it contains inconvenient provisions for the Liberal Democratic Party, and the precipitate revealing of its content could cause confusion among its voters.
“Some members of the newly formed coalition don't rush to reveal the content of the agreement signed between PLDM, PL and PDM on the establishment of the Alliance for European Integration in order not to stir up further frictions, in particular among the PLDM electorate, who are already feeling disappointed that the party's leadership surrendered the key positions in the state, despite winning the most votes”, the analyst told Info-Prim Neo.
Bogdan Tirdea believes the factors that lay at the basis of the coalition's founding agreement are not “principles and values”, but power-sharing schemes and the desire to keep the reins of government. The agreement could stipulate a two-thirds rule for the key decisions in the next government, which could limit the Lib-Dems' maneuvering space.
The Alliance's founding agreement was signed on December 30, just minutes before the inaugural sitting in Parliament. On Tuesday, January 4, PLDM vice president Mihai Godea said the agreement set out the principles, values and mechanisms of the Alliance, and its text would be made public in due time.
