Coalition formation talks 'not in a stalemate', Dorin Chirtoaca

Dorin Chirtoaca, who is one of the Liberal Party's negotiators on coalition formation, says that, while no rounds have taken place from last week, the talks are not in a stalemate. The negotiating groups will resume the discussions after the party leaders' meeting, he announced today.

“As far as I'm concerned, meetings were to be held or are yet to be held at the level of party leaders, so there's not much information to give you now”, Dorin Chirtoaca told reporters after the Chisinau City Hall's ordinary meeting.

Commenting on the duration of the talks, Chirtoaca said they could take longer than expected. “When a coalition is being formed, it is indeed important that the negotiations don't last forever, but it is much more important where Moldova is going to get four years from now. So what we are doing today we must do with a forethought of four years, even if these negotiations are to take a month longer than the initially planned duration. Better longer and with a good result than act in haste and get a bad result for four years ahead”.

Following the November 30 election, the Socialist Party got 25 seats in the Parliament, the Liberal-Democrats 23 seats, the Communists 21 seats, the Democrats 19 seats and the Liberals 13 seats. The negotiations on the parliamentary coalition are going on among the Lib-Dems, the Democrats and the Liberals.
