Coalition for Free and Fair Elections supports referendum on condition

The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections is in favor of holding a constitutional referendum, but does not accept changing the rules of the game during the game. Parliament must be dissolved regardless of the results of the referendum. No matter what the results of the constitutional referendum are, it can have legal value exclusively for a new legislative body, starting with the 20th, the Coalition says in a statement, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Coalition launched a call to the ruling alliance, saying Parliament should continue the process of electing the head of state within a reasonable timeframe, of at most a month of the validation of the referendum outcome, based exclusively on the current Article 78 of the Constitution. It says an exact term when the process is to be continued must be obligatorily set. “The given referendum cannot be regarded as a way for verifying the vote of confidence or no confidence given to the parliamentary majority as this can be done only within ordinary or early legislative elections,” says the Coalition. The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections is a voluntary union of Moldovan nongovernmental organizations that aims to contribute to ensuring free, correct, transparent and democratic elections in Moldova.
