The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections - Coalition 2009 intends to verify the electoral lists used in the April 5 legislative elections. On April 10, the organization filed an application to the Central Election Commission (CEC), asking that it is also allowed to copy the documents from the polling places of the Chisinau Electoral District, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Coalition 2009 considers that an independent verification of the electoral lists would help identify cases of multiple voting and establish the accuracy of the lists used in the April 5 parliamentary elections,” the organization says in a press release. On April 8, the Liberal Party, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Moldova Noastra Alliance filed a contestation to the CEC, asking that they are ensured access to the electoral rolls. The parties argued that the lists include dead persons whose names were used by somebody else to vote and the votes were cast in favor of the ruling party. The Commission allowed the three parties to check the rolls within four days, from April 9. On April 10, the Opposition parties said that the authorities hinder their access to the electoral registers and demanded that the CEC extend the term for a week. Coalition 2009 accredited over 2,100 national observers to monitor the April 5 legislative elections. It will delegate some of these observers to make copies of the electoral rolls. Coalition 2009 is a voluntary union of Moldovan NGOs that aim to contribute to free, fair, transparent and democratic elections for the Parliament. It continues the activities promoting free and fair elections initiated by Coalition 2005 and Coalition 2007 and has over 70 NGO members.
