Coalition 2007 calls on voters to take part in June 3 elections
The Civic Coalition for Free and Fair Elections – Coalition 2007 – calls on all registered voters of Moldova to participate in the Election Day on June 3.
Coalition 2007 encourages electors to get informed about the electoral candidates and their programmes correctly, in a complex manner, from different sources, in order to exercise consciously their right to vote.
At the same time, Coalition 2007 calls to all youngsters, especially students and first time-voters to acquaint with the correct voting procedures, to participate actively in the Election Day and make use of their vote to decide who will be their community mayor and councillors where they domicile or reside.
The Coalition reminds that taking part in elections represents an important mechanism for citizens to give an appreciation to and influence the manner in which the state affairs are being administered. Also, exercising the right to vote offers the possibility to take part in the decision-making process, and to determine the set up of local services and administration of local public goods.
About 2.5 mln voters are registered in the electoral rolls for the local elections scheduled for June 3, their number being by about 300,000 bigger than in the local elections of 25 May 2003. The participation rate in the 2003 elections was 58.68%, of which the most active were the voters from the following districts: Basarabeasca, Cantemir, Ocnita, with a participation rate of above 75%. In Balti and Chisinau, the participation rate was of 35% and 45%, respectively, being the lowest in Moldova.
