CNAM has funded 2067 cataract surgeries since year’s start

During the first six months of 2019, 2067 cataract surgeries were performed of the total 5,500 planned to be funded this year by the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM). This represents 37% of the total.

The Company says in a press statement the total amount designated to these surgeries exceeds 55 million lei, of which almost 21 million were allocated for the first half of the year.

The average cost of a treated case covered by the mandatory health insurance funds constitutes almost 10,000 lei, an amount that also includes the expenses for consumables. The Company is also negotiating with private providers to perform these medical services.

In 2019 the Company has signed contracts for the provision of these services with 11 medical institutions. “All the insured
persons who have medical indications for such interventions benefit from these surgeries and are on the waiting list,” reads the statement.
