CMC will work under new regulations

The Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) approved new regulations concerning the constitution and running of the Council at Thursday’s meeting. According to the CMC secretary Vladimir Sarban, the Council needed new regulations because the law on local public administration was modified. Among the key modifications are the introduction of a stipulation according to which the vice mayors can be elected not only from among councillors, and of a new point concerning the chairperson of the Council. Disagreements aroused about the last stipulation. Some councillors said that the respective matters must be decided only after the Parliament adopts the law on the status of Chisinau municipality. The Communist councillors said that the regulations should be approved only after the adoption of the given law. The CMC approved the new regulations as its formal rules by a majority vote. The members of the legal commission will discuss them, examine councillors’ proposals and objections and present the regulations in a final form at one of the next meetings. Currently, CMC works according to the regulations approved on May 5, 2005.
