CMC upholds decision banning three jurists of Legal Assistance Division from representing Council in court

Three jurists of the Legal Assistance Division of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) still cannot represent the Council in court, Info-Prim Neo reports. Diana Gurschi, Victor Morgoci and Valentina Urecheanu were deprived of this right in November 2008 at the proposal of the leader of the PCRM faction Svetlana Popa, which the Council accepted. Svetlana Popa argued then that the judge of the Chisinau Court of Appeals Elena Gligor wrote a letter, criticizing the performance of the legal representatives of the CMC. On March 12, the Legal Assistance Division proposed a draft decision to extend the list of persons empowered to promote the Council’s interests in the relevant bodies by six persons, including the three jurists excluded earlier. 26 councilors of the factions of the PCRM, PPCD, PSD and the independent councilors rejected the proposal, accepting only two of the candidates fielded - Vitalie Salari and Olga Iovu. Signing and issuing powers of attorney in the name of CMC to persons delegated by the Council will be in continuation the right of the CMC secretary.
